Contour RoomThis is my contour drawing final. I messed up proportions but I am overall very pleased with my work and the details I put in it. Self Evaluation: 1. Did you use a fluid line? Explain how this is evident Yes throughout my entire piece i used a fluid line. This is evident in the words on the boxes at the top of the page and details such as the cow and the paint bottles. Some of the lines I went back and forth to make darker on the cabinets but I did not remove my pen and start in a new spot. This is important because fluid lines are the essence of contour drawings. 2. Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with contour line contributed to the success of your piece. In the previous studies I drew contour hands and a small sketch of the room. These small drawings really helped me understand how to make shapes using a continuous, fluid line. I also participated in a blind contour drawing which really helped me connect what I was seeing to my paper. It was very hard but it improved my skill set and helped me avoid being sketchy. 3. Describe the difference in your contour line drawing to an outline drawing. The contour line drawing I did had much more detail than an outline drawing. Though both styles are similar contour drawings and outline drawings are different. For example in my contour drawing I added texture in which I would not have in an outline drawing. Since I could not remove my pen from it's line I was forced to make my shapes more round than an outline drawing. 4. Explain how your interpretation of line is essential to capturing the look of the room. To draw a contour drawing is to draw one big fluid line that twists and turns to make something beautiful. In drawing a room it is important to get details for that section while you are there. It is a lot harder than it sounds because had to retrace quite a few times. Its also so important to make sure than line always connects, then you have a true contour drawing. 5. What did you learn from completing this drawing? If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome? This drawing truly opened my eyes to a different way to draw. Though I had done small sketches in contour, I had never completed a drawing of this size. It was hard but taught me a lot about looking at details. If I could recreate this room piece I would most definitely have done the table that Emily is sitting at in a more realistic way. I saw the desk but I didn't quite get the shapes and depth I wanted. I would also redo her hair and face in a less detailed way. I really enjoyed drawing this eye opening work. This is my progress of the contour drawing of a part of the art room. Emily was hard to draw without making it too detailed. BackpackThis is Nicole's backpack that she put on the table and we drew with contour lines. It was very hard to get the shape and texture correct. HandsThis is a contour hand that is modified. I enjoyed drawing contour hands! This was a blind contour drawing that ended up looking like a hand but sort of like a monster!! This is a graphite pencil drawing. I tried to include value and created the shapes my bones and joints make in my hand.
