Final Exam
Before the project, we did a mini study that allowed for me to develop my facial feature skills. I learned the importance of value. I also had to debate my form of a portrait and chose expressive to be the best for me.
Required Question:
This project stretched my art skills and taught me a lot about the importance of the art process. Before this project, I had never done any form of a self portrait so I wanted to make sure it was my best work. I chose a expressive portrait in order to figure out how to make a realistic and emotional piece. I chose to use a picture that was angular and full of value and I chose graphite. I experimented with pen, which was an interesting medium but I felt pencil best captured my emotion. I had to draw lines and shadow map my photo in order to create the most realistic piece. Proportions are extremely important in a realistic portrait and I had to work hard to make everything come together. Since my expression was fun, I used colorful pen to stipple pineapples in the background. I felt the pineapples made my art unique and gave it almost a pop art factor. I had never done any art to this level of craftsmanship up until this piece. I was challenged to take time on details and work to make my art better than I ever thought it could be. This portrait is me in expression and style.

My most successful project was "This Llama Don't Need No Drama". This was my first time doing scratchboard and one of my first real animal pieces. I started by sketching different perspectives of the llama and settled on one that properly displayed movement. I felt successful at creating value and texture in the llama hair and I made one of my best composition. I used the rule of thirds to make interesting composition. Scratchboard also allowed for really cool effects and challenged the way I added value.

Look over the blogs of other students in our class. Choose a piece of artwork from one of your classmates that you feel is an exemplary showcase of what the project was to depict. Think about how the artist used the medium, utilized the elements of art and design principles, was original with their ideas and went beyond their comfort zone or the realm of the requirements. Make sure you have the image of their artwork along with their name (first name only) posted with this response
Tess is an overall amazing artist. Her art is all amazing but I found her picture of herself walking in the rain particularly fascinating. Tess used prismas to create a compositionally stunning piece. The umbrella shows opacity. The bright colors add interest. Tess also used perspective to give the art of picturesque look. Tess was original, she used a picture she had already taken and add brightness and the rain and umbrella to make it even more unique. She also is very good at planning. Tess went above and beyond by creating a detailed background that included bricks and buildings. Rain is super hard but she totally killed it.
