This watercolor painting presented a multitude of challenges and successes. I had a hard time painting the path because it faded off in the distance but then I realized the skill of a vanishing point which we learned in drawing. I was then able to have proper proportions. Also, it was very hard to paint the shadow of the grass and have it blend with the lighter grass. I then was able to use the technique of adding water to blend the colors. By using watercolors I was able to use and understand more about painting.

Throughout the first few weeks of art class I have been able to improve my overall knowledge of drawing skills and art. I began to better understand value, proportion and depth. In drawing a sphere I learned these things and techniques like cross-hatching. I also drew a know using a line to improve symmetry. The rule of thirds was something I learned that I was able to later use with my duckling to give more interest. My art skills in drawing have drastically improved in the last weeks. The idea of an original art piece has always been a hard thing for me to comprehend, but this week has changed my perspective. What seems to be original art is never truly original. Ideas and inspirations come from things that already exist but are changed for uniqueness. In making my art I took the concept of a duckling which swims and a lemon, which is the same yellow color. Lemon and water are to ideas that I "stole" to make my own art. The cartoon character Snoopy was also an inspiration for a piece that I changed by making him and girl version. Artists steal to make art original. This unit posed great opportunities for improvement but also present challenges. Drawing a hallway was extremely difficult. But I learned how to make the hallway look proportional and real by using a point of reference and a ruler which made the drawing a bit easier. Challenges are part of art that help you learn. |
